Research
In order to launch a successful product it is important to consider interests and needs of the customer. I read reviews of SYC club members to define needs and views.
I also researched other websites about yachting to catch some good ideas, find out strengths and weaknesses, understand flows and access to information.
These steps allows to make the site an attractive and informative channel, putting all the information necessary for new visitors and members.
Prototype
My sketches were based on my previous research and focused on the user needs, business goals, and industry standards. I wanted to organize the information in a way that would help the user easily understand the product and the options available to them.
Visual design
The main idea of this design was to make this site more user friendly and conteporarry looking. I choose Nautical palette. Navy and white was the basic colors for this site, and I used orange as a contrast color for buttons and some elements. Sections of the page was separated with curved lines that visually imitating waves. Stylized icons, logo and photo are great addition to the nautical web page.
Final product
What did I learn?
Since this project was my first time redesign process, it was a good learning opportunity for me.
If you want to do something new you must do it in the new way.
I gained an understanding of the importance of research and empathy.
To create the space where user needs meet business goals I had to dive deeply into understanding the business perspective.
